Fashion Tips: How To Wear White This Season

Summertime is fast approaching, and classic white is going to be back in vogue. Here are a few tips to maximise the effect of this cool style.

First, avoid the temptation to accompany white clothes with white underwear. Granted, this was the received wisdom just a few years back but the underwear tends to show through. Perhaps the development of flesh tone underwear in the intervening time has had something to do with the new prevailing trend. Try to find a bra and knickers that match the tone of your skin when rocking your cool, clean summer whites.

Use white clothing tactically: be aware that reflective white will highlight an area, making it look bigger. Don't pick out an area of your body that you wish was perhaps a little smaller by covering it with white. All over white is the way to go, as this will elongate your figure.

White hosiery is out if you are no longer in primary school. It's not the 80's, and you're not Helena Bonham Carter. If you are HBC cut it out!

Similar caution applies to the white shoe ? O.K. for the long leg with small foot, but tends to sectionalise or 'chop up' your leg if you are of a more average build (with shorter legs) ? resulting in you looking shorter.

This next point may seem obvious, but don't wear white to a wedding unless you are the bride! A white blouse is fine as part of a multi-coloured ensemble, but you will win no friends competing with the bride on her big day.

If you are unsure that white suits your particular body shape, don't try and force the issue ? this season you will have a variety of pastel and off-white colours like eggshell and ivory to choose from. The most important thing is to make sure that you feel confident and comfortable in the clothes that you step out in.
